Myth is one of many ways to explain cosmogenesis and anthropogenesis, as well as athletic practices, in the performance of the Public Games in Hellenic Greece, or the creation of the Olympic Games in the Modern Era. Heroes, heroines, goddesses and gods inspire attitudes that demand fearlessness, the pursuit of excellence, overcoming fear and, above all, transcendence. Each athlete, in his/her sport and time, marked the history of his/her family, his/her city and, sometimes, the history of his/her country. Therefore, with each new edition of the Olympic Games they are sought, listened to for details, memories, small or great deeds so that their heroic achievement can be perpetuated. This book is a creation by Olympic Studies scholars, based on the studies of the imaginary, which seeks to understand, through myths, the different human expressions in contemporary sport through the spectacular figure of the athlete.
